Why It’s Hard to Diet

The universe is conspiring against us.

Cartoon by Lambert-King

I would like to lose weight. I would also like to be able to fly. One is about as likely as the other. When it comes to losing weight, there are a lot of factors working against me. For example, when compared to the majesty of the universe, we’re all just specks. Honestly, does it matter if a speck is fat? It’s important to get the “big” picture.

I understand that weight is a measure of the effect gravity has on you. I think gravity has it in for me. Maybe I’m not the problem but gravity is. I’ve noticed that gravity seems to have it in for large people in general. Shame on gravity for profiling.

In addition, there are misconceptions in the food industry that make weight loss difficult. For example, I’ve seen cups of deserts that say 350 calories per serving. My initial thought was, that’s no so bad. Then comes the catch. On the dessert cup, it also says the number of servings is two. I really need to have a discussion with these guys as to what constitutes a “serving”. Apparently, they are talking about what constitutes a serving for a supermodel.

Perhaps you’re familiar with, Hungry Man TV dinners. They used to advertise that their dinners had two servings. The second serving was built in. As my friend said, what happened to the first serving?
