Why Can the Bears Never Get it Right?

I’ve been a Bears fan since 1963. Old-timers might remember the Bears won the NFL championship that year. Since then being a Bears fan has been a mostly unrewarding experience. Forget unrewarding. Sometimes it’s been downright agonizing.

Sure the Bears had one of the greatest, if not the greatest team in NFL history in the 1985 Super Bowl-winning Bears. But even that team ultimately underachieved. That Bears unit should have won multiple Super Bowls, but instead fragmented and ultimately dithered away a shot at sustained greatness.

In the last few years, as Rodney Dangerfield would say, the heaviness has returned. Other NFL franchises are bad but in recent years, the Bears have been particularly frustrating.

Why won’t the McCaskeys do something? Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy aren’t working out. Why won’t the McCaskeys admit it?

The Bears have a poor team on the field. They also have limited draft choices and cap issues. Isn’t that the trifecta of a poor GM? How does Ryan Pace still have a job?

I believe what irritates Bears fans the most is ownership’s comfort with mediocrity, or even less than mediocrity. Is money the motivator in a…
