Tips for Finding a Good Lawyer
Look for these things.
Over the years, I’ve had various occasions to make use of a lawyer. Generally speaking, it’s worked out pretty well. Here are some things to look for, some positive and some negative when choosing the right attorney.
Principles and ethics are good things. While you might think you want an attorney that has the moral flexibility of a gymnast, that can bite you. If your attorney cheats for you, he will cheat you too.
Generally speaking, it’s not a good idea to go with an attorney your opponent recommends. A while back my mother was in a nursing home and a question arose about what the nursing home would charge us. There was a time crunch, and we had to get legal help fast. We found an attorney that came across as arrogant, and condescending. He also gave us the information we needed.
Armed with that information, we met with the nursing home business office. They conceded that we didn’t owe any additional money. The lady at the business office also said that she knew the attorney we had consulted, and she wouldn’t use him. I told her, then I had picked the right guy.
