Tips for Doing Your Own Talk Show
Here are some tricks the pros have used.
It’s been almost 30 years since Johnny Carson left The Tonight Show. And he’s still considered the gold standard in talk show hosts. Since that time we’ve seen a steady decline in the quality of show hosts. How bad is it? It’s so bad, you may be able to be a talk show host. Keep these things in mind:
Be yourself. Unless you’re boring. Then be somebody else. Preferably somebody funny and/or smart. It’s probably not a good idea to be somebody that’s of a different race or gender than yourself. That’s been tried, with poor results.
Find your audience. No, literally, find your audience. Even if you have to go door to door to do it. If you’re charged with stalking, then it’s time to loosen up a little bit.
Say stupid stuff and lots of it. But you might be saying, “Larry you said to be somebody smart and/or funny. What’s up?” Well, you can say stuff that’s stupid and not believe it. Talk show hosts do that all the time. If you say something outrageous, no matter what it is, there’s a good chance that there are people out there that will believe what you say. Plus, in case you’re sued, it’s a great legal defense. Recently Tucker Carlson and Fox News won a lawsuit using the argument nobody in their right mind would believe Tucker Carlson.
