Things You May Have Forgotten About Disco

Or are at least trying to forget.

Cartoon by Lambert-Allen

One of the more maligned forms of music in recent, or at least semi-recent memory is disco. One of the more dramatic outbursts against disco music was a Disco Demolition Night promo held by the Chicago White Sox.

Fans were invited to destroy disco records between games of a doubleheader. Promoters vastly underestimated the size of the crowd and the zeal with which people would destroy disco records. A riot ensued and the second game of the doubleheader was canceled, with the White sox forfeiting the game.

Despite being disparaged by many people, disco remains popular with some. So here are some things you may have forgotten about disco.

1: Barry White spent four months in jail for stealing $30,000 worth of tires.

Those tires were good for 60,000 miles or four months. Your sentence may vary.

2: Disco balls preceded disco music by at least 50 years.

And they might outlast disco music by 50 years.

3: The man who wrote Disco Duck and provided the voice of the duck was paid only $50 for his work.

You probably don't know my name, but have likely seen my work. I've written for numerous syndicated cartoon strips and my gags have appeared in national pubs.
