Things You Didn’t Know About the TV Show, “Hazel”

When I was a kid, I watched a lot of TV sitcoms. One of those was “Hazel.” It wasn’t one of my favorites then and has lost ground as I have gotten older. I really don’t see Hazel as funny anymore. I see her more as a combination of overbearing and sad. What a great combination! Who wouldn’t want to spend time watching it?

Actually, watching Hazel was more of a product of a lack of options. Regardless, here are some things you might not have known about Hazel.

1: Despite what I thought, Dorothy “Missy” Baxter did have a job.

I thought her function was to look good and watch in awe as Hazel ran her household. In turns out Missy was an interior decorator. Unless she was around Hazel, in which case she became an inferior decorator.

2: In the pilot episode, George Baxter was played by Edward Andrews. The audience didn’t respond well to Andrews, so Don DeFore got the role.

It seems like the idea was going from someone who was vanilla to someone who was very vanilla.

3: The Baxters’ son was named Harold, but Hazel nicknamed…
