Facts About the Super Bowl
It’s not all about football.
After dealing with a ton of football related hype and tripe, we’re barreling towards the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl is such an event even non-football fans watch. Even beyond that, some people watch just for the commercials.
There’s even a musical component to the spectacle. The halftime show is also a much-ballyhooed event. Watch for an interesting tidbit about that in the upcoming facts. I’m a football fan and some of this stuff surprised me. So, here we go:
1: The Super Bowl wasn’t always known as the Super Bowl.
Remember when Prince was known as, “The Artist Formerly Known as Prince?” Well, the Super Bowl wasn’t originally known as the Super Bowl. Instead, it was known as, “The AFL-NFL World Championship Game.” It just doesn’t have the same ring as Super Bowl, does it?
2: The First “Super Bowl” didn’t sell out.
It wasn’t even close to a sellout. This despite the fact the highest-priced tickets sold for $12. Remember the first Super Bowl was called “The AFL-NFL World Championship Game?” Thus highlighting the need for a name change.
