15 Things You Didn’t Know about Steve McQueen
Was he really that cool?
As you might have seen before, one of my favorite old westerns was Steve McQueen’s, “Wanted Dead or Alive.” He was also a star of some of the most iconic action movies in history. Examples include the original, “Magnificent Seven,” “Bullitt,” “Papillon,” and “The Great Escape.” Based on his movies, he was known as The King of Cool. But was he really that cool?
McQueen’s personal life in many ways was decidedly uncool. Let’s take a look at some facts about McQueen’s career and life.
1: Whenever McQueen arrived on the set for a new movie, he demanded a whole bunch of electric razors and pairs of jeans.
What a diva! Hang on, being told he actually donated those items to Boys Republic, which was a home for troubled boys. My bad. It turns out that McQueen had spent time there himself and credited the place with helping turn him around.
2: Completing “Papillon” was a challenge.
The producers were having trouble getting money to finish the project and people weren’t getting paid. McQueen then threatened to walk out on the project which spurred the producers to raise funding.
