Things You Didn’t Know About Sports Talk Personalities and Broadcasters
What should you know about these guys?
I’m a huge sports fan. I’ve listened to sports via radio for close to 60 years. That includes St Louis Cardinals games on KMOX and all manner of sporting events and sports talk on assorted Chicago radio stations. I’ve been asked to do a spot on a Philadelphia sportscast tomorrow. Mitch Bernstein, the host of the show, suggested I compile a list of things you didn’t know about sports talk radio people.
It got me thinking about sports talk hosts and broadcasters. With that in mind, here are ten things you might not know about sports talk hosts/broadcasters.
1: A catchphrase is nice.
Dan Patrick’s, “En Fuego”, Chris Berman’s “Back, Back, Back” and Harry Caray’s, “Holy Cow” are examples of catchphrases. Admittedly Berman’s “Back, Back, Back” during the Home Run Derby can cause nausea and make you turn down the sound on your TV, but a catchphrase is, generally speaking, nice.
“Boom goes the dynamite” is generally considered one of the greatest catchphrase bloopers of all time, but it did get its creator, Ball State’s Brian Collins some recognition.
