The musical didn’t tell the whole story.

I’ve lived in Oklahoma most of my adult life. I spent nine years in Florida, but recently moved back to Oklahoma. While I thought I knew quite about the state, I decided to do a little more research on the state to see what else I could come up. Here are some things you might not know about Oklahoma.

1: Oklahoma is the fifth most obese of the 50 states.

I hope my moving back didn’t drive that ranking up.

2: Oklahoma has a state meal which consists of fried okra, cornbread, barbecue pork, squash, biscuits, sausage and gravy, grits, corn, strawberries, chicken fried steak, pecan pie, and black-eyed peas.

I think I understand that obesity thing now.

3: Oklahoma is also responsible for the popularity of pecan pie.

Pecan pie didn’t originate in Oklahoma but was made popular by the Fields family who were from Oklahoma. There’s that obesity theme again.

4: The nickname, “Sooner State” has a historical basis.
