Mark Harmon has had a nice career in the movies, but a fantastic career on TV. His role as Gibbs on NCIS has become iconic. I watched the show on a regular basis until Ziva and DiNozzo left. After Gibbs left, I’ve almost totally lost interest in the show. Mark also had a memorable role in St. Elsewhere.

Mark has been in some westerns, which I appreciate, and he was also a pretty good college QB at UCLA. Plus, he had high profile parents. So, beyond that, here are some things you probably didn’t know about Mark Harmon.

1: Mark’s father was Tom Harmon, a Heisman Trophy-winning college football player and broadcaster and actress, model, and artist Elyse Knox was his mother.

Somehow, I expect expectations for Mark were high.

2: When selecting a college, Mark chose UCLA over Oklahoma.

Hmm, LA over Norman, Oklahoma, a choice only about 90% of young men would make.

3: Mark was in various TV shows a s a guest star and unsuccessful TV series. Included was a short-lived series named “Sam,”
