She was one of the hottest stars of the 80s.

Katleen’s career skyrocketed in the 80s. Some think of her as a latter-day Lauren Bacall based on her appearance and voice. And I think that’s a fair comparison. I can’t say I’ve seen a lot of her work, but I do remember her in Romancing the Stone and as Chandler Bing’s father in the classic TV series, Friends. And yes, I did say she was Chandler’s father. Kathleen has shown some range.

Beyond that, I did know she was wrestling with health issues that impacted her career. Once again, not a lot of knowledge to begin with. However, after some research, here are some things you probably didn’t know about Kathleen Turner.

1: She’s an almost Okie.

Kathleen was born in Springfield, Missouri. Her parents were very conservative, and acting was considered to be just one step above being a street walker. But in fairness some have managed to be both.

2: Her father was with the Foreign Service, so she traveled a lot.

So, it was like she was with a traveling road company while growing up.

3: After moving to New York in 1977, she was the play, Mister T, with Jonathan Frakes.

You probably don't know my name, but have likely seen my work. I've written for numerous syndicated cartoon strips and my gags have appeared in national pubs.
