Things Can Change in a Hurry
Don’t get too comfortable.
As illustrated in the above cartoon, this world is a pretty volatile place. I’m reminded of a couple of famous philosophers, Ferris Bueller and Satchel Paige. It was Bueller who said, “Life comes at you fast.” Yes, it does, therefore, it behooves you not to get too comfortable. And life, like Medium, changes its algorithm, usually not for the better.
Satchel Paige also had some great advice. Satchel said:
“Don’t look back, something might be gaining on you”
In my case, one of those somethings is old age. In general, it pays not to get cocky. Here are some examples as to why:
1: You may think you are sitting on top of the world.
But it may turn out to just be hemorrhoids.
2: According to Andy Grove, “Success breeds complacency.”
I had no idea I was so successful. I feel better about myself. Which is dangerous.
3: Carly Fiona said, “Do not be afraid to make decisions, do not be afraid to make mistakes.”
And she’s absolutely right. If you make mistakes, you can always blame somebody else.
