The White Sox are Loading the Moving Truck
Lucas Giolito is just the beginning.
As of late Wednesday night, the White Sox started moving inventory. The Sox traded their most consistent starting pitcher in Lucas Giolito along with right-handed reliever Reynaldo Lopez to the
Angles for two prospects.
Giolito is a prime example of how budget constraints affect the White Sox roster. Giolito wanted to remain with the White Sox and there’s a good chance his contract, while substantial wouldn’t break the bank. It seemed a forgone conclusion that the Sox wouldn’t resign him.
As for Lopez, he could be one of the sneakier aquations made before this season’s trade deadline. Lopez has excellent stuff with a fastball that reached the upper 90s. After getting lit up in the closer’s role early this season, he’s pitched great ball as of late.
So, what did the White Sox get?
To Rick Hahn’s credit, he seemed to do pretty well under the circumstances. The Sox prize in the trade was switch hitting catcher, 20-year-old Edgar Quero. Quero is currently the youngest player in AA and projects as a bat first player. One of the more appealing aspects of Querto’s game is his control of the strike zone. While he hasn’t flashed a lot of power in AA, he has previously in his career.
