The State of the Chicago Bears is Really Depressing
And there’s little relief in sight.
The Bears were systematically taken apart by the Chargers last night. The final score of 30–13 wasn’t indicative of the disparity between the two teams. While the Bears seem to have made a little progress over last season, doubts are creeping in as to whether Matt Eberflus and his staff are the ones to lead the team going forward. Forget about doubts creeping in, they’ve stormed the door and filled the room.
Last night’s loss spotlighted a lot of the team’s problems. First of all, Tyson Bagent isn’t a franchise QB. He might, however, be a decent backup QB. And there is real value in that. The problem isn’t Bagent, the problem is the Bears haven’t decided if Justin Fields is their guy at QB or not. And that has gone on for far too long.
Some of Ryan Poles misses on personnel decisions are striking
Why is Velus Jones Jr. still on the roster? He slipped and dropped a wide-open TD pass last season. And Bears fans were not surprised. He has been a waste of a third round pick. And Chase Claypool was a waste of a second/almost first round pick. There is no point to amassing draft choices if you can’t convert them into good players.
