The Moment I Realized I was Too Old for Theme Parks
It was just another stop on the road to Geezerville.
It had been a long time in coming. For years I didn’t have the joy I used to when it came to the idea of going to a theme park. I had systematically stopped riding certain types of rides. Mostly the ones that involved any type of movement. Well, it wasn’t quite that bad, but any ride that involved spinning tended to make me nauseous form the time I was in my early 20s.
It never got to the point to where I spewed chunks but keeping my breakfast down took a monumental effort. The idea of spending a bunch of money to take the “can you avoid barfing” challenge seemed to be a poor investment to me.
When I was younger, I would be nauseous, but didn’t want to appear to be nauseous, as that wouldn’t seem cool. I’d have to tell friends I always turn green when I’m having a good time.
And then there was the heat.
One theme park I “enjoyed” when I was younger was ‘Six Flags Over Texas” in Arlington, Texas. The last time I was there I was about 40 years old, and I believe the temperature was about 110. It was so bad even the kids wanted to leave and go back to the to the motel pool.
