The Landscape of the NFL Fantasy Draft Will Be Significantly Different Next Season

The NFL’s top running backs are showing slippage this season.

For the last couple of years, the drafts of fantasy football leagues I participate in were pretty much the same. Most of us tried to prioritize stashing upper-echelon running backs. The order was pretty much the same, with little movement at the top of the draft. Christian McCaffrey, Alvin Kamara, and Saquon Barkley were all high picks. Next year I’m not sure that will be the case.

The decline of the big-name running backs.

Saquon Barkley has been average at best this season. This season he was generally a late first-round pick. I’m not sure I’d use a first-round pick on him next season. The injury bug has hit him in each of the last two seasons, plus he’s getting older.

Christian McCaffery has had a similar experience. Generally speaking, he’s been the first overall pick in most fantasy drafts. That could very well change next season.

Alvin Kamara also seems to be showing signs of wear and tear. I wouldn’t use a first-round pick on him next season.

Ezekiel Elliott seems to have lost his explosiveness and Tony Pollard seems to be at least his equal, if not better.
