And it started with George Halas’ first hire.

The Bears’ outlook is brighter than it has been in years. GM, Ryan Poles, has made a number of seemingly outstanding moves to putt the team in an excellent position to contend for the playoffs. Generating more excitement than anything else is anticipation of Caleb Williams as the Bears’ starting QB. There was however, one question that nags some Bears fans.

Is Matt Eberflus the right guy to be the head coach?

I don’t know. What I do know is the Bears have had an interesting array of other head coaches. Let’s take a brief look at the history of head coaches in Bears history.

Sadly, I remember them all.

The Bears have a long history of hiring the wrong head coach.

When legendary Bears coach/owner George Halas made his first head coaching hire, he whiffed. Halas reportedly had told George Allen in 1964 and 1965 he would succeed Halas as the Bears head coach.

After the Bears went 9–5 in 1965 Halas was named Coach of the Year. Halas then decided to stay on as head coach. George Allen went on to the LA Rams and then Washington Redskins where he had a Hall of Fame career.
