The Cubs have the Pieces, but Will They Put Them Together Properly?
They can be slow in making adjustments.
One game. That’s how much the Cubs missed the playoffs by last year. And the feeling is they would have been in the playoffs if the team had felt more of a sense of urgency about winning. The organization’s seeming laisser-faire attitude about early season losses was maddening. As was their lack of interest in adding to the team. Hopefully those mistakes won’t be repeated this season.
The Cubs have to move on from Kyle Hendricks and Advert Alzolay
All Cubs fans love Kyle Hendricks. However, it’s time to move on from him. At least for now.
Forget about issues of pitch sequencing and being the victim of soft contact. Kyle just doesn’t have the stuff or command to cut it. The Cubs can’t concede every fifth game. Which is what they are doing when they keep Hendricks in the rotation.
As for Alzolay, his stuff just isn’t closer worthy.
Ben Brown can handle one of those slots
Ben has been everything the Cubs could have hoped for as a starter, and out of the pen. I tend to want to see him as a closer because that’s where I don’t see a lot of options.
