The Bears Really are Much Improved
So, what does that mean long term?
Ther Bears 28–13 win over the Lions was Matt Eberflus’ signature win in his short tenure as the head coach of the Chicago Bears. The Bear are clearly on the upswing. It seemed like a lot of people on and off the field for the Bears had their jobs in jeopardy just a few weeks ago. Recent developments may have changed some of those outlooks.
GM, Ryan Poles, head coach, Matt Eberflus, offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and QB, Justin Fields all were on somewhat thin ice before the last two Bears’ victories. Has that changed? Let’s take a look at each situation.
Ryan Poles: Out of the four people mentioned, Poles position seems most secure. Trading a second-round draft pick for Montez Sweat may have solidified his job. Couple that with the haul he got for last year’s first round draft choice, and you have a fairly solid track record.
Yes, Poles has had some serious missteps. The trade of a second-round draft choice for Chase Claypool leaps to mind. Spending a third-round draft choice on Velus Jones Jr. was a swing and a miss. But Poles had an outstanding record with the last draft class.
All in all, for Poles, the good outweighs the bad by quite a bit.
