They are perhaps most famous for their pursuit of the Holy Grail.

One of the great comedy troupes of our day is Monty Python. Their Search for the Holy Grail is probably considered their masterpiece. On the musical front, there was The Lumberjack Song and Spam. Beyond that, I don’t know a lot about them collectively, or individually.

I will give a shout out to John Cleese for his work as a western sheriff in Silverado. He was both out of place and oddly convincing in the role. Now, on to some things you didn’t know about Monty Python.

1: The members of the group are/were well regarded among other comedians.

In a 2005 survey of 300 members of the comedy community, when asked who the 50 greatest comedians of all time were, half named the members of Monty Python. That was individually. Imagine how good they were collectively.

2: Monty Python came to the attention of many fans through the TV series, “Monty Python’s Flying Circus.”

John Cleese left the group after the third season. He said he felt he didn’t have anything fresh to add. Well, old is okay if it’s funny.
