10 Signs of a Weak Economy
Even my dog can sense a problem.
The economy is on everybody’s mind. And not in a good way. People think about inflation, rising interest rates, difficulty, and making ends meet. Pundits will read off numbers trying to tell us we are or are not experiencing economic difficulties. Rather than relying on so-called “experts” there are some other ways to tell if the economy is tanking. Let's look at some of those signs.
1: My dog barks less.
My dog barks at deliverymen. Not just deliverymen making stops at my house, but deliverymen making stops up and down my street. If my dog barks less that means fewer deliveries. Fewer deliveries mean a slower economy. My dog is keeping an eye on the economy.
2: You can afford to fill up your gas tank.
As strange as it seems, low gas prices can indicate problems in the energy sector. My initial reaction is tough. I didn’t realize being able to afford a road trip was a danger sign for the economy.
3: You can get through a McDonald’s drive-thru in less than half an hour.
If McDonald’s sales are down, that can be an indicator of an economic downturn. It can also be an indicator McDonald's prices have gone up too much.
