Reviewing 12 Sayings of Seneca
Was he really that smart?
Ok, after doing a piece about toilets and poop, maybe I should class it up a little bit. I’ll go ahead and write about a philosopher and his smart sayings. Actually, I’ll even analyze some of them. I’ll probably do a series of pieces like this. I’ll start with Seneca.
Seneca was a Stoic philosopher of ancient Rome. He was noted as an orator and a Roman senator. At least two emperors told him to kill himself, and the second time, it took. I would write more about his life but it’s starting to feel like work and want to get to his takes on life. Here we go. Let’s take a look at some of Seneca’s quotes.
1: Cease to hope and you will cease to fear.
Seneca apparently wasn’t a really sunny guy, but I guess most stoics aren’t. I’m guessing this guy could really make the sale of anti-depressants spike.
2: We learn not in the school, but in life.
When he was young, Seneca was voted, “Least Likely to Pile Up Student Debt.”
3: Wealth is the slave of a wise man and the master of a fool.
And a stranger to me.
