Remembering Laurel and Hardy

This great comedy duo seems to be fading from public memory.

Even as a kid I loved to watch comedians. When I saw a Laurel and Hardy movie was on, it was must see TV. I haven’t seen any of their stuff in a long time, but decided I would do a little more exploration into their lives and careers.

Of course, they began their movie careers in silent movies, but were able to transition into talkies. Even before they got together as a team, they had each put together a solid career. Now, on to some things you probably didn’t know about Stanley Laurel and Oliver Hardy.

1: Stan Laurel was born Arthur Stanley Jefferson in Ulverston, Lancashire, England.

It wasn’t until years later he was crowned with Laurel.

2: Oliver Hardy was born Norvell Hardy in Harlem, Georgia, on January 18, 1892.

I wonder if a being born a white guy in Harlem, Georgia created any issues.

3: In his early days Oliver Hardy was known as “Babe.

Back then must have been the golden age of “husky” guys. There was Babe Hardy and Babe Ruth. Of course, things weren’t so great for Fatty Arbuckle, but that’s a story for…
