Remembering Jim Croce
He made a huge impression during his short life.
When I was in my late teens, Jim Croce was one of my absolute favorite musical performers. I loved his music and also appreciated the stories his lyrics told. In addition, I enjoyed the simplicity of his performances. His shows weren’t elaborate productions. The man came out in blue jeans and a simple shirt and sang. And did it very well.
Croce’s life was cut short when he died in a plane crash on September 20, 1973. He left behind a legacy of great music, and of course, his family. He really seemed like a musical Everyman. Beyond that, here are some things you didn’t know about Jim Croce.
1: Between 1966–73 Jim released five albums and various singles.
During that time Jim worked various odd jobs to keep himself afloat. Actually, when Jim performed, he looked like a guy that had just finished a shift at the factory. And that wasn’t a bad thing.
2: Jim’s only hit during his lifetime was “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown.”
It was like an urban version of, “You Don’t Mess Around with Jim.”
