Remembering “Get Smart”
I think I need to take another look at the show.
While I watched a lot of TV during the 60s, I feel like there are some good shows I could have given more attention. Possibly because I spent a lot of bad Chicago sports teams during the 60s. “Get Smart” was one of those shows. But I regress. I did see the movie, “Get Smart,” and was impressed by it. Not surprisingly, Steve Carell was great as Maxwell Smart. But then again, so was Don Adams.
So, I decided to take a deeper look at the classic TV series, “Get Smart.” Here are some things you might not have known about the show.
1: Johnny Carson was on the show twice.
He might have escaped your attention because Ed McMahon wasn’t on the show to say, “Here’s Johnny!”
2: Mel Brooks and Buck Henry were the creative forces behind the show.
So, Mel skewered Frankenstein movies, westerns and spy movies.
3: Fang the dog was written out of the script.
Dogs are difficult to direct, so Fang suddenly disappeared from the show. In the storyline, Fang was taken to a farm in upstate New York to play with other dogs. What’s that? Being told that didn’t happen. I guess I’ll have to go back and…
