I honestly didn’t like the show that much.

It seems like I should look back on certain things from my childhood more favorably than I do. A case in point is Captain Kangaroo. I don’t have anything against the Captain and his show, I just didn’t find it that entertaining.

For the most part, I grew up just outside Chicago and loved the morning show Ray Rayner and His Friends. Initially, the show was called Breakfast with Buggs Bunny. Now there was a great show. I’ll talk a little bit more about that before talking about the Captain.

Ray Rayner played cartoons, such as Bugs Bunny, but if also did really low-budget stuff. Stuff like Clutch Cargo and Diver Dan. He would also incorporate sports clips of the Chicago Cubs and White Sox on his show.

Ray also did crafts segments wherein he showed his ineptitude. His show also featured an ill-tempered duck named Chelveston. Looking back, Ray was one of my favorite Chicago celebrities when I was growing up.

Now there was a great morning show for kids, but I digress. Back to Captain Kangeroo. Here are some facts about the Captain and his show:

1: Bob Keeshen was not the original choice to play the Captain.
