Remember the big picture.

Lots of athletes talk about pressure. They cope with it in various ways with varying results. Frankly, I’m sick of millionaire athletes talking about pressure. Pressure is having the rent due, utilities past due, no food in the house, and a family counting on you, while you have no job. Then against that backdrop, going on an interview for a menial job. That’s pressure. How do you ace a job interview against that backdrop? Let me help.

Be honest, but not too honest. For example, at one point in my life, I was desperate for a job and interviewed at every conceivable place I could think of. Finally, after a series of rejections, I was filling out an application at a dump (figuratively speaking). The application asked, “Who, or what made you apply here?” I wrote, “desperation”. I did not hear back from them.

Sometimes employers are not realistic about the position they are offering. Somehow, they think that absorbing abuse from customers and management while getting paid minimum wage is a prime position. They may require a background check and drug test. The process may take a couple of weeks as they process your information. Part of the problem is they are also processing the applications of a couple of dozen guys as desperate as you are.

You probably don't know my name, but have likely seen my work. I've written for numerous syndicated cartoon strips and my gags have appeared in national pubs.
