Nine Recreational Options in the Old West
Some were not without peril.
As you can probably tell if you’ve read much of my work, I have an interest in the Old West. While I find it fascinating, it’s not a time frame in which I would have liked to have lived. One reason for that is there seemed to be limited entertainment options. Lets’ review some of them.
Let’s go to a hanging!
There’s fun for the whole family! Will the condemned be remorseful or defiant? Will death be instantaneous?
Pack a picnic lunch. It’s dinner theater of a different type. It’s also a great opportunity to teach children about the perils of breaking the law.
And then there’s gambling.
Do you want to fritter away what little bit of hard-earned money you’ve accrued? Of course, if you win, you can then be called a cheater and run the risk of being shot or stabbed by a sore loser. Sounds like a nice way to spend an evening.
Occasionally, a medicine show might make it’s way through town.
Think of a live action bogus infomercial. The virtues of various products would be extolled and then some poor shmoo from the audience would serve as a test case for the product and be miraculously cured of his…
