Navigating the World as a Non-Car Guy
It can be tough.
I’m not a car guy. The other day I was passed by a Porsche and thought, so that’s what they look like. I’d be hard-pressed to tell the difference between a Mercedes and Camry. I just want a vehicle that will get me from point A to Point B without breaking down. I do want something that looks decent and I like my vehicle to be clean. My automotive wants are simple. Fulfilling them is not so simple.
Most of us have had the experience of having our check engine light come. That can be annoying and worrisome. I understand some guys actually check their engine or take their car to a mechanic and have them do it. I’ve oped for a different approach. I put a little piece of tape over that annoying light. I think automobile manufacturers are fear-mongers using the check engine light to instill fear into me and drive me to a high-priced garage where an unscrupulous mechanic will rip me off. (And about that alleged moon landing!)
There are, however, some problems that aren’t so easily solved. When a situation like that arises, a really good mechanic would be nice. Sadly, in times gone by, I’ve selected a mechanic by trial and error. Lots of error. In years past, I had heard of Mr. Goodwrench. Unfortunately, I stumbled across his less talented cousin, Mr. Mediocre Wrench. It didn’t go well.
