Like so many other people, I love to write. Ideally, I would like to make some money at it. While I love to write, my writing interest is fairly narrow. I love sports and humor. I’ve also heard you should write what you know. So in addition to sports and humor, you can poverty and getting old as things I know about.

While I’ve dabbled in writing for better than 30 years, the niche I’ve actually made some money at is gag writing for cartoonists. Many people are unaware that some cartoonists will use material supplied to them by gag writers as the basis for their cartoons. Included in that are syndicated cartoonists. I currently still do work for syndicated cartoonists. Over the years I’ve sold gags to Dennis the Menace, Mother Goose and Grimm, Dustin, The Grizzwells and Strange Brew. Pay for accepted gags is currently $50-$100. (Though some are pay as little as $10)

I’ve also worked a lot with cartoons who sell gag cartoons to print and Internet publications. As print publications have went down the tubes, opportunities for gag writers have as well. Over the years my work has appeared in such publications as, The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, Parade magazine, Better Homes and Gardens, the Saturday Evening Post and National Review.
