Life Lessons from a Geezer
I would have thought I would have learned more by now.
As an old guy who has been kicked in the groin repeatedly by life, I feel obligated to help others navigate the minefield that is life. In some cases, you may have heard the advice before. I will elaborate on how it works. Or, in other cases, I may refute some old cliches.
Keep in mind as you contemplate these tidbits, before writing satirical bits in the hopes they will make me a buck. Prior to that, I’ve hit all the high-paying careers. Janitor, telemarketer, courier. Yep, I’ve done them all. That gives you some context for these life lessons. And here we go.
1: The pain of debt is greater than the enjoyment of stuff.
I enjoy my time more than just about anything else. Maybe because it’s winding down. Stuff is generally overrated. One of my son’s friends did some work on the home of a well-known NBA player. As he did his work, he noticed his employer, the star NBA player, was sitting on his couch, eating Chic-Fil-A. It struck me, hey, I can sit on a couch, watch TV and eat Chic-Fil-A.
2: Learning is an ongoing process.
