Let me take some of the mystery out of legal mumbo jumbo.

I’ve studied a lot of law. Well, actually, I watched a lot of ‘Law and Order” reruns. Based on those hundreds of hours of watching Jack McCoy I’ve picked up a lot of legal jargon. Let me share the benefit of binge watching one of the finest dramas ever to air on TV. If you don’t find my info helping, I suggest you go up the next rung of the ladder. The non-attorney spokesperson. Now, on to that terminology.

1: Admissible: This is what you can admit to without getting into too much trouble. Hang on, it seems that term refers to stuff that can actually be considered as evidence in a court case.

2: Alternate juror: A juror with an alternative lifestyle. Wait, being told it has nothing to do with a juror’s lifestyle, it just refers to a possible replacement juror.

3: Appellate: The form in which some pet food comes. Whoops, it seems like it actually refers to a court that can review the ruling of a lower court. Much like a kid who asks mom for something after dad has said no.

4: Accessory. The bling you might wear while committing a crime. Hold on, being told that accessory is actually someone associated with a crime that wasn’t actually there at the commission of the crime. Sort of like a worker having someone else punch their time clock…

You probably don't know my name, but have likely seen my work. I've written for numerous syndicated cartoon strips and my gags have appeared in national pubs.
