Larry Lambert’s 15 Favorite TV Sitcoms
How does my list compare to yours?
I’ve been watching TV a long time. Even when I was young, I enjoyed sitcoms. In putting together this list, you will probably notice many of these comedies go back at least 25 years. Generally speaking, I don’t care for today’s sitcoms as much.
Before I get into my actual list, a brief word about some shows that didn’t make it. Roseanne was hilarious for a while, but did not exactly stick the landing. Despite being a monster in the ratings, The Cosby Show, to be me, wasn’t as funny as Cheers. Plus, it hasn’t exactly aged well. I could go on, but on to the 15 shows that did make my list.
15: I Love Lucy: At its peak, this was THE TV show. At it's still funny even today. To me, a large part of the humor in the show comes from Fred and Ethel. It turns out that Vivian Vance and William Frawley really couldn’t stand each other. Regardless, it didn’t hurt the comedy.
14: Barney Miller: The comedy, for the most part, was dry and subtle. Almost all the action was in the 12th precinct. While the officers were funny, they didn’t come across as morons. They actually seemed competent while being humorous.
13: Taxi: A great ensemble cast with a concept that allowed for versatility in storylines formed the foundation of this great sitcom. I wonder if any…
