I’m not a Rodeo Fan

I’m not knocking it, it’s just not my cup.

I saw a story that talked about a Utah politician’s family being attacked by a bull while the family was at a rodeo. I don’t believe the attack was politically motivated. I believe the attack was primarily the result of the assailant being a bull. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured.

Earlier this year a bull jumper was injured. That’s right, a bull jumper. I didn’t realize that was a thing. In this instance, also in Utah, the bull jumper jumped over the charging bull, but failed to stick the landing. As the jumper laid prone on the arena floor, the bull returned to the scene of his embarrassment and trampled the jumper.

The jumper suffered a head injury, but it wasn’t serious. Of course, if that guy was jumping bulls, I wonder about what was going on with him before the injury.

Obviously, rodeo has a serious element of danger attached to it. But that’s not the only reason I’m not a fan. I find it hard to decide who to root for. I don’t the rider to get hurt, but I’m not sure what a guy is doing riding a bull. It seems pointless.

It’s not like football where a guy shows his manliness by carrying a ball over a goal line with 11 other guys trying to stop.

Steer riding, gateway to the hard rodeo stuff
