Growing up during the 60s and 70s, I definitely saw the need for additional technology. Having spent part of that time in Antlers, Ok made that painfully evident.

I spent part of that time in a low-lying area that made TV reception and radio reception for that matter, extremely problematic. I was a baseball and sports fan in general and found keeping up with sports was a difficult proposition. Getting The Sporting News once a week just wasn’t sufficient.

Well, now most of us have access to all the sports we want, as well as access to pretty much any form of entertainment we want. That’s nice but other “advances” in technology aren’t so wonderful. A number of examples highlight this.

How about an app to monitor your driving?

My car insurance offered a discount if I put an app on my phone that monitored my driving. I declined. Maybe I’m paranoid, but to me, that’s like asking, “Would you like a state trooper to ride along with you 24/7?” I’m a safe driver, but I don’t believe I want that type of scrutiny.

If I had accepted and taken the discount when I re-up on my insurance would I run into something like, “We see during that last six months you can to three rolling stops and consistently drove 3–5 mph…
