Great and not So Great Moments from Past Presidential Debates
Some of those debates have produced some memorable lines.
Lots of us have seen some political debates over the years. On occasions there have been some great lines, but generally it’s a snooze fest, unless Donald Trump is involved. But the line that stands out to me was one uttered by independent presidential candidate, Ross Perrot’s running mate, James Stockdale.
Stockdale shared the debate stage with Dan Quayle and Al Gore in 1992. When asked to respond to a question, Stockdale responded, “You know, I didn’t have my hearing aid turned up, tell me again.” Generally speaking, that’s probably not a bad idea for most of us during a political debate, though it might be problematic if you are a participant.
While that’s one memorable moment, here are some others you may have forgotten about.
1: In a 1984 debate, Ronald Reagan got off a famous line.
During that presidential campaign the 73-year-old Reagan’s age was an issue. To diffuse that issue, Reagan said in his debate with Mondale, , “I will not make age an issue of this campaign.
