Does anybody else remember him as the Quaker Oats guy?

Wilford Brimley seems like a regular guy. Possibly because he used Quaker Oats. But beyond that, looking like a chunky middle-aged guy with a walrus mustache makes him seem like an everyman. And he had that look for a long time.

But beyond commercials, Brimley was in some memorable movies. He was one of the seniors who decided to leave Earth in order to pursue youth in the movie, “Cocoon.” I also like him in a TNT western, “Crossfire Trail.” So, here are some things you might not have known about Wilford Brimley.

1: Wilford starred with a number of senior stars in the movie, “Cocoon.”

He was actually 20 years younger than the other ‘seniors.” He bleached his hair and mustache and had wrinkles and liver spots drawn on his face to look older. Brimley was 50 at the time of the shooting and the other seniors would call him “Kid.” Ok, I made that last thing up.

2: When Brimley was the pitchman for Quaker Oats, his tagline was. “It’s the right thing to do.

I didn’t realize eating Quaker Oats put you on the moral high ground.
