Facts About Warren Oates
No, he didn’t work with Darryl Hall.
If you’ve read much of my stuff you know I focus a lot on actors from days gone by. Often guys who have done a lot of westerns. Some were leading men, while others were character actors. Warren Oates, while primarily a supporter actor, did take an occasional turn as the lead. Sadly, Warren died at the age of 53 or he would probably be much more well known.
It occurred to me that I had seen Warren in a bunch of movies but didn’t know that much about him. So here are a few things you might not have known about Warren Oates.
1: Warren was great in the Bill Murray military comedy, “Stripes.”
He played Army Sergeant Hulka. How good was Oates? You might say he was the “Incredible Hulka.” What’s that? Being told nobody but me would say that.
2: Oates worked a lot with director, Sam Peckinpah.
Peckinpah became familiar with Oates on “The Rifleman.” Peckinpah was a writer and director on show, while Oates guest starred numerous times. I’m not sure exactly how many times Oates terrorized the people of North Fork.
