We’ve all heard about the great Neil Simons play, “The Odd Couple.” There have been various versions of the play, but the one I, and I would guess most of us are most familiar with is the TV version of, “The Odd Couple.” Both Jack Klugman and Tony Randall were great in their respective roles.

But Randle was probably a bigger deal than we realized beyond his role as Felix Unger. For example, when I was doing pieces about Rock Hudson and Doris Day, I realized Tony Randall co-starred with them in three movies. I seem to recall him popping up in a lot of other stuff too. In taking a deeper dive, here are some things you did know about Tony Randall.

1: Tony was born Aryeh Leonard Rosenberg to Jewish parents in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

I’m not sure there are a lot of those in Oklahoma.

2: Tony served five years in the U.S. Army Signal Corps where at least part of his work included code breaking.

He achieved the rank of first lieutenant before his discharge. He went onto break the Da Vinci Code. Hold on, being told that’s not true.

3: Randall’s first major TV role was that of history
