One aspect of All in the Family that is sometimes overlooked is it spun off a couple of other successful TV shows. One of those shows was The Jeffersons. The show featured a catchy theme song and a swaggering Sherman Hemsley among other things.

While I didn’t find it tremendously funny, it wasn’t bad and was a fairly easy watch. Hemsley’s character Geroge Jefferson, like Archie Bunker, had some abrasive characteristics, but also some redeeming ones. Including his love of his wife, Louise “Weezy” Jefferson.” So, with that limited background information, here are some things you probably didn’t know about The Jeffersons.”

1: The catchy theme song “Movin on Up” was written by Ja’Net DuBois and Jeff Barry.

You might remember Ja’Net as Wilona Woods in the series Good Times. Man, that Chicago apartment complex had a lot of talent in it. J J was a talented painter and Wilona was a songwriter. It turns out she also sang the song. Who knew?

2: The show wasn’t universally loved by critics.
