Richard Dawson may well be one of the top five game show hosts of all time. He is most known for his work on “Family Feud.” Why generally very popular, his tenure on The Feud was not without controversy. I expect that when most people think of Richard Dawson, they think of Richard kissing contestants on the game show.

But beyond Family Feud, there were a lot of aspects to Dawson’s career. Notably, Dawson had a nice run in “Hogan’s Heroes.” And then there was his turn as a game show host in, “The Running Man.” Now, on to some things you might not have known about Richard Dawson.

1: Dawson ran away from home and joined the British Merchant Navy when he was 14. He started boxing and won nearly $5000 on shipboard matches.

But later in his career he became more of a lover than a fighter.

2: He was born Colin Lionel Emm.

Maybe that’s why he became a boxer.

3: Dawson appeared on the Benny Hill Showcase in 1954. It was possibly his first appearance on TV.
