It’s still one of my favorite movies of all time.

When I first saw Raiders of the Lost Ark in a theater, I thought it was the best movie I have ever seen. And that still might be the case. Harrison Ford was amazing as Indy, and Karen Allen was great as his spunky love interest. And I’m not happy with the word “spunky” in that description, I just can’t the think of a better one.

The stunts and special effects still look great today. Ford’s performance as an everyman/ action hero hit just the right balance. As for bad guys, the Nazis were the Washington Generals to the good guys’ Harlem Globetrotters back in the day, though that perspective seems to be changing a bit. After that bit of background, here are some facts about the classic, Raiders of the Lost Ark.

1: George Lucas’ dog was partially responsible for the name “Indiana” Jones.

Originally, the hero was going to be named Indiana Smith. However, that was deemed to be too close to Nevada Smith, so the last name Jones was settled on. Indiana became the hero’s first name after George Lucas’ dog who was named Indiana. That same dog was at least in part, the inspiration for Chewbacca. I hope he had least got some extra treats for providing that much inspiration.

You probably don't know my name, but have likely seen my work. I've written for numerous syndicated cartoon strips and my gags have appeared in national pubs.
