Part of her was famous before The Dick Van Dyck Show.

Mary Tyler Moore was an integral part of two of the most successful TV sitcoms in history. She and Dick Van Dyck portrayed what may have been American’s favorite couple in the 60s as Rob and Laura Petrie in The Dick Van Dyck Show. Mary followed that success up with a great run as Mary Richards in The Mary Tyler Moore.

While those two TV series may have been her greatest claims to fame, they are far from her only ones. I remembered from a couple of movies but didn’t know a whole lot of details about her life or her career. So, here are some things about MTM you might not have known.

1: Her first TV role was on the show, “Richard Diamond, Private Detective.”

Actually, only her legs were shown on the show, and her voice was heard. At least according to one source. That was enough to make an impression.

2: Before TV fame, Mary was the model for some album covers.

It’s one of those situations where the album cover is more valuable than the album.

3: Mary had two variety shows.

The first was launched in 1978 and called Mary. It lasted three episodes. In 1979, she gave it another shot with, The Mary Tyler Moore Hour. It last for 11 episodes. Well, it she was trending it the right direction. If she had been given five or six more…
