Critics liked it better than I did.

“Mad About You’ began airing in 1992. It’s a little newer than the shows I usually write about, but I did watch it some. I thought it was okay. Not great. It seems like critics liked it, which is generally a red flag for me. I did, however, like the theme song.

While I remembered a little bit about the series. I did a little research to find what tidbits I could come up with. So here are some facts about “Mad About You.”

1: Paul Reiser and Danny Jacobson made a basic pitch to NBC execs.

They pitch the show as what happens “When you leave the party or the dinner, it’s you and your wife in the car.” You might remember Seinfeld was pitched as a show about nothing. Pretty similar premise.

2: Initially, the show didn’t test well.

When Reisner or Hunt weren’t front and center, audiences didn’t care about what was going on. I thought the supposting charaters were weak. The show needed to borrow Kramer, George, Elaine, and even Newman from ‘Seinfeld.”

3: Reisner and his manager wanted the show to be called, “Reisner,” or “The Paul Reisner Show.”
