Her career encompassed much more than “I Love Lucy.”

Lile most kids, I enjoyed watching cartoons. However, I also enjoyed a few other programs. Westerns and The Three Stooges come to mind. But one, perhaps surprising addition to the list of programs I enjoyed was “I Love Lucy.” I’m not sure why, but I found the show enjoyable.

While I didn’t find her subsequent projects as entertaining, her talent and sheer determination were undeniable. So, here are some things you might not have known about Lucille Ball.

1: Lucy gave up her eyebrows for her career.

As she was coming up through Hollywood’s star system, the studio had women shave off their eyebrows in an effort to achieve the Gene Harlow look. I believe the studio also had a huge investment in eyebrow pencils.

2: When George Reeves, aka Superman appeared on “I Love Lucy,” his real name wasn’t used in the credits.

The idea was to keep the illusion of Superman being real was preserved. The illusion of Lucy having red hair was also preserved

3: Lucy had to push to get the studio to go with the idea of Desi being her TV husband.

You probably don't know my name, but have likely seen my work. I've written for numerous syndicated cartoon strips and my gags have appeared in national pubs.
