Few, if any actors have transitioned form serious roles to comedy as seamlessly as Leslie Nielsen. Nielsen is probably best known for his work in the “Naked Gun” franchise, as well as his role in “Airplane.” Actually, his role on Airplane was somewhat against type and it paid off bigtime.

I remembered Leslie popping up in some westerns from the 50s and 60s but didn’t know a lot about him beyond that. So, after doing some reading, here are some things you likely didn’t know about Leslie Nielsen.

1: He starred in a well-regarded sci-fi movie from the 50s called, “Forbidden Planet.”

It seems that the inhabitants from the Forbidden Planet were involved with, Lambada, “The Forbidden Dance.” Hold on. Being told there is no connection between the two.

2: His brother Eric was into politics.

He was a deputy prime minister in Canada. Erik represented the Yukon for the Progressive Conservatives from 1957 to 1987. That term “progressive conservative” is confusing to me. Are they also known as the bipolar party?

3: Leslie was fond of taking and using his fart machine with in during interviews.
