John Goodman is probably most known for his portrayal of Dan Conner in Roseanne, but he’s been in a number of other noteworthy projects. A couple of my favorites are Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? and Raising Arizona.

John has also hosted SNL 13 times, making him one of the most frequent hosts. In addition, he has appeared in six Coen brothers' films, making him the leader in that category. With that impressive resume in mind, here are some more facts about John Goodman.

1: When he was growing up John spent a lot of time listening to the radio and reading comic books. He also read his brother’s Mad magazines.

He admitted that he shoplifted Mad magazines. It goes to show that reading Mad leads to crime.

2: John’s father was a postal worker who died of a heart attack when John was only two.

John looked to Boy Scout leaders and acting coaches to help fill the void. Thankfully some of those acting coaches could act like a father.
