Facts About James Drury
To many of us, he’s “The Virginian.”
When I was growing up, I spent some time with one of my aunts and uncles. We lived next door to them for a period of time and my aunt was a really good cook, so I would often find myself there at suppertime. As the evening wore on, TV watching, and a bowl of ice cream would often ensue.
On Wednesday night, that generally meant watching an episode of “The Virginian.” And I was fine with that. Years later, I would watch the show on some network featuring TV oldies and enjoy it again. Of course, James Drury was the titular character.
That’s primarily how I knew James Drury, though he did have a significant role in the great western, Ride the High Country. So, with that scant background, here are some things you probably didn’t know about James Drury.
1: When he was young, he was a huge fan of Joel McCrea and Randolph Scott.
Ironically, he and his motley brothers were killed in a gunfight with Joel and Randolph in Ride the High Country.
