Hugh is probably best known for his work in the TV series, The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp. In that series he played Wyatt Earp as guy that would make the Osmonds look like a biker gang. And the theme song extolling the virtues of Earp is perhaps the most annoying yet catchy themes I can remember.

In addition, Earp played the father of Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger in Twins. He basically played an idealized version of an older guy. I’m surprised he didn’t have his own theme song exalting him. But there was a lot more to Hugh than that. So, here are some things you probably didn’t know about Hugh O’Brian.

1: He dated his wife for 18 years before they got married.

He gave hope for Miss Kitty in her quest to get Matt Dillon to commit.

2: He was 81 when he got married for the first and only time.

Which begs the question, “Why bother?’

3: In the John Wayne movie, “The Shootist,” he played the last man Wayne ever killed on screen.

I’m not sure who the last man Wayne killed in real life was. Wait, being told Wayne never killed anybody in real life.
